Meg Wilcox

Meg's journalism career has taken her from Ottawa to Iqaluit to the Rockies -- and many places in between! For almost a decade, Meg worked at CBC stations across the country as a producer, newsreader, and cross-platform reporter. She was a host on CBC Radio One, 2, and 3, and developed programming for CBC Music. She covered federal elections as part of the Parliamentary Press Gallery with iPolitics, and was part of the team that founded Banff Centre Radio.

Meg's passion is for long-form narrative storytelling -- particularly podcasting. In addition to teaching the first-year flagship reporting course, she developed and teaches the program's first podcasting class. She is also currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Glasgow, investigating inclusion in podcasting.

Outside of the classroom, Meg creates podcasts with private clients and is a host on CKUA Radio.

Kyle Napier

Kyle Napier is Dene/nêhiyaw Métis and a member of Northwest Territory Métis Nation. He grew up in small communities in Tu Nedhe in Denendeh, colonially referred to as the Northwest Territories. He has led and assisted community efforts and projects supporting Indigenous language revitalization, reclamation and acquisition through use of Indigenous technologies and decolonial tools, curriculum-building which centers the land and Indigenous worldviews, and a community-first approach to project-making with, by, for and from Indigenous communities. He is a graduate of Mount Royal University’s journalism program and holds a Master of Arts in Communication and Technology from the University of Alberta.

Sarah Buffalo

Sarah Buffalo is Cree woman (nehiyaw iskwew) ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ from Maskwacis Alberta, currently residing in both Treaty 6 & 7 territory and completing her fourth year of Anthropology at Mount Royal University. The mountains have always been a sacred place to visit her ancestors as they are full of biodiversity and medicine, and Sarah strives to honor their legacy by incorporating Indigenous science and methodologies into her work on food sovereignty.

Gabrielle Pyska 

Gabrielle Pyska is in her fourth and final year with the Mount Royal University Journalism Program. She has spent most of her time focused on long-form storytelling, with a personal passion for audio stories. She grew up camping in Jasper National Park and spends her time taking photos of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains or hiking with friends. In the future, She hopes to use her skills to focus on human rights and movement journalism to tell underrepresented stories in her community. 

Eric Tanner

Eric Tanner is a third-year journalism student at Mount Royal University in Calgary. An admirer of the outdoors from a young age, he can be found hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and enjoying the scenery in the Alberta and B.C. Rockies whenever he has the opportunity.

Ethan Ward

Ethan is a fourth-year journalism student at Mount Royal University. Born and raised in Calgary, Ethan spent much of his childhood in the mountains and developed and strong love for the outdoors, spending the winters skiing and snowshoeing while hiking and camping during the summer.

Catalina Berguno

Catalina Berguno is a third-year journalism student at Mount Royal University. Passionate about biodiversity issues and storytelling, she developed a love for podcasting through her time in school. She spends her day taking long walks or with her head in a book. 

Vanessa Forbister

Vanessa is an undergraduate student at Mount Royal University pursuing a History Major with an Indigenous Studies minor. Vanessa’s passion for film and writing encouraged her to branch out and use her skills as a research assistant for the Canadian Mountain Network podcast. Seeking to learn more about her Métis culture and how she can involve herself with Indigenous knowledge holders, the CMP was an opportunity to help expand on that knowledge. When Vanessa isn’t researching or doing schoolwork, she spends her time reading, writing, and walking her two mountain dogs!

Sydney Klassen-Rosewarn

Sydney Klassen-Rosewarn is a third-year journalism student at Mount Royal University in Calgary. She is passionate about long-form journalism and telling stories that have the power to change communities. Syd strives to understand the various perspectives that shape our world. In the past year, she has learned to love research and audio storytelling through podcasts. She commits to continually holding space for marginalized peoples, and amplifying their stories through podcasting. Syd is also an adventurer, who loves international travel, backcountry split boarding and summiting mountains during the hiking season.

Blaise Kemna

Blaise was the Host & Producer of the Canadian Mountain Podcast during Season 2. At the time, he was a fourth-year journalism student at Mount Royal University in Calgary. He grew up hiking, skiing and combing creek beds for fossils in the nearby Rocky Mountains.
