About Canadian Mountain Network/ Braiding Knowledges Canada
The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) has developed a pioneering, ethical, and equitable way of conducting natural science that respects Indigenous Peoples, leading to better scientific and community outcomes. CMN will transition to Braiding Knowledges Canada (BKC), facilitating Reconciliation through Research.
BKC’s goal is to significantly enhance the influence of self-determined, place-based, and co-produced knowledge within Canada’s science culture such that, over time and on a path towards reconciliation, Indigenous and local knowledge approaches contribute more to public policy and decision-making and become more fully and equitably reciprocal with federal science priorities.
The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, as the Knowledge Mobilization Coordinator, you will be responsible for day-to-day communications leadership. This includes managing social media content and accounts, drafting website content, and drafting and distributing electronic newsletters. The position will draft/design/develop or contribute to producing reports, brochures, print and digital advertisements, posters, graphics/infographics, photos, videos, and other communications assets. This position is also responsible for the successful planning and execution of planned in-person and online events for Canadian Mountain Network/Braiding Knowledges Canada and our partners.
Supporting the implementation of CMN’s communications plan is a key function of this role, serving all of CMN’s internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications & Marketing
Manages all social media accounts, including drafting and distributing content, sharing the content of others, monitoring and responding to interactions with followers, and ensuring the account and its followers communicate professionally and respectfully.
Manages CMN’s website (www.canadianmountainnetwork.ca) and any future websites, including ensuring effective hosting, drafting, and formatting content through WordPress & Storyblok.
Measure the impact of communications and marketing efforts using web and social media analytics and compile detailed reports.
Recommends and implements print and digital communication strategies.
Create tailored content on various digital and print media platforms for multiple audiences, including the general public, researchers, trainees, and knowledge users. Including but not limited to blogs, articles, webpages, and reports.
Creates communications materials that reflect both Western and Indigenous ways of knowing and doing.
Events
Effectively plan, execute, and ensure thorough follow-up and reporting on various in-person and online events (e.g., conferences, meetings, workshops, webinars, etc), including but not limited to meeting logistics such as venue, tech support, speaker organization and overall format.
Submit and adhere to an approved budget for each event/activity.
Additional Responsibilities:
Build and maintain relationships with external and internal networks and partners, including collaborators, funding agencies, and suppliers.
Collaborate with other team members and event/web/graphic coordinators.
Contribute to creating an environment where diverse ideas, perspectives, and achievements are recognized and celebrated.
Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in knowledge mobilization/communications.
Identify key stakeholders and target audiences for knowledge dissemination.
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, knowledge management, business, social sciences) is required.
Minimum of 3 years in a professional communications role.
Experience with the following communications tools is an asset: WordPress, MailChimp, Hootsuite, and/or Google Analytics.
Superior writing skills and demonstrated ability to produce written material for several different media (web, print).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities. Comfortable with problem-solving and decision-making and capable of working independently on projects when required
Experience in event planning and implementation is considered an asset.
Familiarity with various communication channels and technologies for knowledge dissemination.
Analytical skills to assess the impact of communication initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
Experience working in knowledge user sectors, such as Indigenous organizations, industry, government, or the not-for-profit sectors;
