Dr. Suzanne Tank

Biography

Dr. Suzanne Tank is an Assistant Professor and holds the CAIP Research Chair in Aquatic Ecosystem Health at the University of Alberta. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research- Biogeosciences and the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and was appointed a fellow of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography in 2018. Suzanne’s research program broadly focuses on land-to freshwater-to ocean transfers of biogeochemical constituents and the effects of landscape change on the functioning of aquatic ecosystems. Her current research efforts occur across aquatic systems in Alberta, the Arctic, and on the Canadian Pacific Coast. Since beginning her faculty position in 2014, Suzanne has trained 3 PDFs, 2 Ph.D. students, and 7 M.Sc. students. Of her 29 peer-reviewed articles, four are listed as ‘highly-cited’ (receiving enough citations to put them in the top 1% of their field) on the Web of Science citation index. In addition to her research efforts at home, Suzanne’s expertise on connectivity along freshwater gradients has enabled her to act as an invited member of a NASA (US National Aeronautics and Space Administration) task force to create a science plan for research investigating land-freshwater-ocean linkages in the Arctic. She also sits as a steering committee member for a US National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Co-ordination Network tasked with bringing together researchers who work on land-ocean connections on North America’s Pacific coast.
