Dr. Colin Laroque

Biography

Dr. Colin Laroque is the director of the Mistik Askiwin Dendrochronology Laboratory (MAD Lab). The MAD Lab is the most holistic tree-ring lab in the country. They have active projects in the subfields of dendroclimatology, dendroarchaeology, dendroecology, dendrochemistry, and are actively developing a new branch of tree ring science at the Canadian Light Source synchrotron. The MAD Lab has worked on well over 100 dendroarchaeological projects from coast to coast to coast in Canada. Dr. Laroque has conducted dendrochronological projects in most of the mountain ranges in Canada, from the Insular Mountains on Vancouver Island, to the Red Wine, Mealey and Torngat Mountains in Labrador, as well as all mountain chains in between. The MAD Lab has conducted the only in-depth dendrochronological investigation of a caribou fence in the Mackenzie Mountains, but also has background in dendroarchaeological investigations of “drift” fence structures in the Rocky Mountain National Parks of both Banff and especially Jasper.
