Dr. Sarah Jacobs
Biography
Dr. Sarah Jacobs is a cultural anthropologist whose work focuses on mountaineering, colonialism, science and technology. She just completed a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship during which time she conducted an ethnographic study of the Mountain Legacy Project (MLP). This research considered how scientists work with the photographic collection in order to know mountain landscapes, evaluate changes, and generate and contest knowledge. She is currently working as the project manager for a research partnership between the MLP and the Stoney Nakoda Nations. This project will develop a model for utilizing colonial era mountain photographs to support Indigenous resurgence. It is intended as only a beginning, eventually leading to a wider network of collaborations with Indigenous communities across Canada.
