Naomi Smethurst

Biography

Naomi Smethurst is the Assessment Archaeologist for the Northwest Territories Cultural Places Program. Ms. Smethurst has over 13 years of experience participating in and leading a diverse range of archaeological research and consulting projects throughout British Columbia and the Northwest Territories, including archaeological assessments, excavations, and mitigation of archaeological sites. Ms. Smethurst has participated in alpine and mountain survey work in both BC and the NWT, most recently as a project team member for the NWT Ice Patch Project in 2017. Ms. Smethurst also has experience facilitating collaborative archaeological research projects with local communities where traditional knowledge is the guiding principle for research objectives, methodology, and interpretations.
