Biography

Jamie Snook was born, raised and lives in Labrador. Jamie has over nineteen years of management experience and currently works as the Executive Director for the Torngat Wildlife, Plants and Fisheries Secretariat. The Secretariat is an institution of public government that was created from the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement and formulates recommendations on the conservation and management of wildlife, plants and fisheries within the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area.

He is a past Volunteer of the Year in Happy Valley – Goose Bay, a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, an alumni of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference, and has completed his Masters Degree in Ethno-Political Conflict Analysis and Management. He has interest in Labrador’s aboriginal communities, community development, co-management, leadership and health promotion. Jamie has run 16 marathons, enjoys traveling, having fun, working hard and learning.

In 2013, Jamie was also successfully elected as the Mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay with 68.90% of the vote. Happy Valley-Goose Bay is the 5th largest municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador and the highest aboriginal populated town in the province. He served as the 8th Mayor on the 11th Council.
