Shayne A. P. Dahl
Biography
Shayne A. P. Dahl is a PhD Candidate in Sociolinguistic Anthropology at the University of Toronto and a lecturer in Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Prince Edward Island. His dissertation, Mountains of Time: Historical Consciousness and Sacred Mountains in Japan, explores the spatiotemporality of Dewa Sanzan, a prominent centre for pilgrimage and mountain asceticism in northeastern Honshu. His prior researches include ethnographic fieldwork with a Blackfoot-speaking community in Alberta, Canada, where he studied epistemology, ethics, ontology, and dreams. Over the course of his research with mountain ascetics in Japan and with the Blackfoot in Alberta, he has developed a strong interest in the human-mountain interface, the diverse ways in which humans and mountains relate in societies throughout the world.
