Kathrin Kapfinger

Biography

Kathrin is a Communications Intern with the Canadian Mountain Network through the Graduate Internship Program. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science at the University of Alberta with a specialization in International Relations and Migration. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in North American Studies and Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin. Her current research examines the securitization of migration in the European Union, specifically the reintroduction of internal border controls in wake of the 2015 ‘refugee crisis’. Upon her graduation, she hopes to work in the area of migration management and research.

Kathrin has previously held positions as Teaching and Research Assistant with the Department of Political Science, as well as Student Advisor and Editorial Assistant for other institutions. She brings a diverse skill set and interdisciplinary background to the Canadian Mountain Network.

Outside of work, Kathrin spends her time hiking, skiing, and travelling.
