Biography

As a First Nation woman, Geraldine’s passion is filled with being supportive and advocating for all entering into higher education at VIU. She is a member of Snuneymuxw First Nation and was appointed as the first full-time VIU Faculty, Elder-in-Residence in 2012. The Elder-inResidence position provides guidance and support to Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal students, and she shares her traditional knowledge and practices to the Faculty of Health and Human Services (HHS). Before Manson’s position in the Elder’s role with VIU, she spent 17 years as an Elders’ Coordinator for her community. A key part of Manson’s role with HHS is to assist in the understanding of Indigenous Knowledge weaving it into curriculum. Geraldine’s activities across campus include co-teaching, participating in lectures and opening events with the “Snuneymuxw Protocol Welcome.”
