Dr. Maria Inȇs Paez Ferriera
Dr. Maria Ines Paes Ferriera holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1985), a PhD in Polymer Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994) and a postdoctoral degree in Integrated Natural Resources Management relating to her work with the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region at Vancouver Island University (as a CAPES Fellow). She is a full professor at IFFluminese and has been the Director of Innovation, Research, and Extension at Campus Macaé at IFFluminese. Ines is a Professor and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Engineering and coordinates the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering of IFFluminense. Her current area of research examines environmental licensing, water resources management, environmental education, and “payment for ecosystem services” which quantifies the financial impacts of development on Indigenous communities in Brazil, and then works with industry and tourism partners to compensate these communities for the impacts and consequences of development in fragile ecosystems. She is a volunteer of the Friends Association of PARNA Jurubatiba, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Plenary of Entities of the Environmental Macro-region 5 of the State of Rio de Janeiro and former Undersecretary of Environment of the Municipality of Macaé. She is the representative of IFFluminense in the Plenary of the Macaé and Oyster Rivers Basin Committee, currently serving as the Vice-President. She is also a representative of IFFluminense in the Advisory Council of PARNA Jurubatiba and in Agenda 21 of Macaé.
