Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment: networking for mountain biodiversity
The conservation and sustainable use of mountain ecosystems and their biodiversity are essential for a sustainable future to humankind. The Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment’s (GMBA) mission is to provide a framework to support and foster research on the conservation, management, and sustainable use of mountain biodiversity in a changing world and to facilitate the dialogue between communities of researchers, stakeholders, and policy-makers engaged in mountain biodiversity issues. To fulfill this mission, GMBA develops open access tools and resources for the mountain community at large, supports working groups, organizes workshops and conferences, and liaise with stakeholders and policy makers. Examples of GMBA’s portfolio of tools and infrastructures include the Mountain Portal – an online infrastructure for the acquisition, mobilization, query, and visualization of biodiversity data; the mountain inventory – a layer of more than 1000 mountain ranges worldwide; and a growing online database of resources including publications and projects.
GMBA relies on its community and on you to further develop its portfolio of resources and provide increasingly useful data and information for impactful science. We encourage and welcome any contribution to our pool of resources and in particular biodiversity data for visualization on our Mountain Portal. We welcome also new members who would like to contribute to and stay tuned about GMBA activities.
